The Great Barn is located deep in the Norfolk Fenland, a Grade II Listed Threshing Barn measuring close to 80 metres in length.
The project marries the agricultural history of the Barn with new architectural insertions to create a sensitive retreat. The project gives this extraordinary barn a new function whilst enhancing the scale and fascinating 19th Century agricultural architecture.
The exterior is to be sensitively repaired and with the addition of new openings in the exterior, light will flood into the Barn and create a relationship with the wild landscape beyond.
The space is organised with sleeping quarters on the ground floor to allow the living accommodation to be interwoven into the roof space allowing the spectacular existing fabric to be experienced. This series of bespoke structures, linked by raised walkways will create intimate pockets and frame specific views.
The project will be complete in the Summer of 2013.
