‘2 Tone’ in an adaptation to the typical typology of a Victorian terraced house. The new full-width addition works as a modern entertaining space consisting of a generous kitchen and dining area that is linked to a courtyard garden. The side and rear walls of the existing house were removed and replaced by wrapping a new ‘L’ shaped volume around the elevation.
Stained timber decking contrasts the existing stock bricks: 2 Tone sits as a monolith against the existing vernacular form. The bespoke window system allows the windows to open-out establishing the sense of a room within a garden- emphasized by the contrasting hard-landscaping and timber-lined perimeter. The extended sense of space continues throughout the interior by forming a series of planes – concealing the structure.
