Supernature wins RIBA’s Housing Competition

CTA were joint winners together with Metropolitan Workshop with Sir Richard MacCormac, WT Partnership, XC02 and Lee Mallet, for the Housing in the Private Rental Market Ideas Competition, launched by The Wates Group together with the RIBA.

From the Judges: ‘This scheme uses the British gardening obsession to kickstart and maintain a new community, with a clear idea of how this might be facilitated and made to work. The courtyard cluster typologies provide a well resolved take on the requirement for spatial flexibility in a typology which seem eminently suitable for the PRS. A lively and engaging proposal, beautifully presented, which felt plausible for todays PRS market.’

Small: Thoughts and Projects

Small, a practice monograph, develops upon philosophies central to the firm’s work such as a belief in place-making and architecture’s being both process and product. The practice’s concerns encompass the mechanisms or organisations that produce both buildings and the spaces between, and how it can work with and influence them to produce an improved built environment.

Slip House wins the Manser Medal and RIBA National Award 2013

Slip House wins this year’s prize for ‘the best house in the UK’. The judges state: ‘Slip House demonstrates an admirable commitment to the creation of an exemplary low-energy house, with a suite of sustainable enhancements that are integrated effectively into the building design. However, at no point do the sustainable ambitions of the project crowd out or dominate the refined quality of the spaces that are created.’

Sampling NYC.

CTA were selected to work with American Men’s fashion brand Jack Spade as part of the RIBA Regent Street Windows programme 2013.

We were very taken by the collection of Americana that are housed alongside the for-sale-items in the Jack Spade Store. Our project continues this curatorial approach layering sampled NYC architectural motifs throughout the store.

Slip House makes WAN Shortlist

Slip House has made the shortlist (last 6) of the prestigious WAN (World) House of the Year 2013 awards. It is the only urban house on the list and we await the outcome with excitement.

The house has been designed to Code for Sustainable Homes level 5, and is an exemplar for brownfield, terraced regeneration. We have developed the concept with Slip Street, showing how this flexible house type can form new streets, squares and pocket parks.

We invite Housing Associations and Developers to explore a simplified version of this affordable terraced housing typology with us.

The house was also part of Open House 2012 and Green Sky Thinking.
